BENEFITS OF SUBCISION

What is Subcision Treatment

Subcision is a treatment used to correct a type of scar called a valley scar. A valley scar simply means there is a defect in the volume of the skin at that site of the scar.

The goal of subsicion is to improve this decreased volume.

How does subsicion treatment work?

Subsicion works by using a small needle to stimulate the growth of collagen within the scar tissue which helps reinvigorate cellular turnover.

The needle is also used to break up the scar tissue that tethers the skin, thus relieving depression and allowing the scar to fade away.

How long does subsicion take to heal?

After subsicion, your scar will look better after the bruising resolves, but the process of re-collagenation takes 2-6 months. Your skin texture will slowly improve over 2-6 months.

Subcision Aftercare: Smooth Recovery After Acne Scar and Skin Texture Treatment

At Total Woman Healthcare Medspa in Santa Ana, we perform Subcision — a safe and effective procedure that releases deep, tethered acne scars and stimulates new collagen formation for smoother, more even skin.

Following proper subcision aftercare ensures faster healing, minimal downtime, and the best cosmetic results.

What to Expect After Subcision?

• Mild swelling, redness, or bruising may appear in the treated area for several days.

• Some tenderness or soreness under the skin is normal and typically fades within a week.

• You may notice small areas of firmness or slight bumps as collagen begins to rebuild.

• Results gradually improve as new collagen forms over the next few weeks.

Subcision Aftercare Instructions

First 24–48 Hours

• Apply cold compresses for 10–15 minutes at a time to reduce swelling.

• Avoid touching, pressing, or massaging the treated area.

• Keep the skin clean, use a gentle cleanser and lukewarm water only.

• Do not apply makeup, sunscreen, or active skincare products for 24 hours.

• Sleep with your head elevated to minimize swelling and avoid lying face-down.

Days 3–7

• You may gently cleanse and moisturize the skin twice daily.

• Avoid exfoliants, retinoids, and acids (AHA/BHA) for at least 7 days.

• If bruising occurs, Arnica gel or vitamin K cream may help speed healing.

• Continue to avoid direct sun exposure and always apply SPF 30+ once the skin is healed enough.

Weeks 2–4

• Resume your normal skincare routine as advised by your provider.

• Avoid other aesthetic treatments (microneedling, laser, RF, or peels) until cleared.

• Maintain hydration and a balanced diet to support natural collagen production.

Additional Healing Tips

• Avoid alcohol, smoking, or blood-thinning medications (unless prescribed) for 48 hours.

• Gentle lymphatic massage may be recommended later to support healing, only if cleared by your injector.

• Visible results improve gradually as the skin regenerates over 4–8 weeks.
